Prenatal and Postnatal Massage
Prenatal or pregnancy massage is intended to support you throughout your pregnancy in all stages. Pregnancy massage is completely safe for both you and your baby and we will always work within your needs, tolerance and comfort in each session. Some accomodations with positioning will be made depending on where you are in your pregnancy and how you are feeling that day. I always encourage you to speak up if you are in any way uncomfortable during the treatment and we can adjust positioning, pillowing or treatment techniques as needed. Massage therapy can continue postpartum to help you adjust to parenthood or address any new concerns resulting from birth or taking care of your newborn.

A session will begin with discussing your health history, your concerns and informed consent. Assessment based on your concerns will be conducted prior to treatment and during treatment to determine the safest and most effective treatment approach. A treatment will consist of a variety of massage techniques and after treatment I may provide you with exercises or other versions of home care to continue on your own. I will recommend a treatment plan based on the findings of our session but it is ultimately your choice as to whether massage therapy and my treatment approach is a good fit for you.
In most cases, you do not need a referral to see an RMT. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement. It is advised to check your insurance plan’s requirements before booking an appointment.
Please aim to wear something comfortable and easy to move in. Sometimes we will need to perform specific assessments to determine the best treatment approach and this is done when you are fully clothed. For hands on treatment you will be asked to undress to your comfort level. You will be covered with a sheet and blanket during the treatment, only the areas I am working on will be uncovered at any one time. It is ultimately up to you which areas we treat.
